The Pleasure of Eating
by Joanna Gilman Hyde
Eye eat my Greek salad
sitting upon the tomato–coloured couch
with a giant bowl under my chin
like a shelf
Eye am by myself
and my step-mother died today
in California–her last word to me was “fascinating “
and my mother died
here in Nova Scotia–her last word was “remember”
and my daughter called from Quebec
to ask how
do Eye feel
Sorry to hear for your loss, then and now.
Thank you Chagall for this. However good is coming out of it in the reconnecting with my relatives.
You’re welcome. Good to hear regarding reconnecting. Some of my best laughs and warmest exchanges have come at wakes and surrounding events. Be well.
