Joanna Gilman Hyde

"Good Morning, World!"

Month: June, 2016

I THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD

The Hawk Deck 11:11am

I unintentionally saved

a fly

dangling by one wing

from a frayed spider web

over My Kitchen Sink —

I thought He was dead —

I got out the dust mop

merely to sweep Him out

of My View

He stuck to the mop

I stuck My Index Finger

against His Re-instated Body

& He flew away

NOTICE TO MY READERS

Dear Readers:

I added another line to Morning Preen.

Thank you for reading.

Joanna

MORNING PREEN

The Hawk Window Seat 8:25am

My Cow Bird is back

perched on My Car Window

in front of His Mirror

bowing to Himself

as He fluffs up His Plumage

tail out-spread

while letting loose

His delightedly watery chirp

MY GIFT

The Hawk Deck 10:01am

As A Child

the call of The Wild Blue Jay

signified to Me

I had My Whole Life Ahead —

when I hear Him now

I am informed:

“Joanna, You have

Your Whole Life

Bestowed”

TRUTH

The Hawk Deck 8:02am

I slept last night

a proper eight hours

for the first time

since getting hit between the eyes

by The Divine Perfection

of My Double Rainbow

@ 6:00am on June 15th —

sublimity enabled Me to go

off that abject medication —

now My Existence

rings as True

as The Call of The Cow Bird

preening Himself

against My Car Mirror

as free as The Rooster’s Laugh

as assured as The Surge

of The Sea

THE LONGEST DAY OF THE YEAR

Down On The Hawk Beach 4:15pm

I am sitting beside a rock

and Oh not just any rock —

it’s a rock the size and shape

of a giant brain tumour,

brown and cut apart at the edges —

it doesn’t scare Me anymore

I listen to the waves instead

at My Right —

the rock is to My Left and I will go

away from it

as quietly

as I came upon it

THE HOUSE GUEST

The Hawk Deck 9:30am

He stood in His Pyjamas

in the early morning sun

gazing out, forward

across The West Side

of Shelburne Harbour

across the serene dockage

of My Mother’s Boat

at mooring

He took it all in:

He took in The Wild Flowers

The Rocks of the shoreline

He took in The Light

on the water

He took in The Air

and The Warmth

The Buzz of One Fly

and grinned

ON WATCH

The Hawk Window Seat 5:30am

I woke from The Hawk Queen Bed

to see The Full Moon resting

over The Cape

and on the other side

of The Earth

the pink glow of promise

that soon I would see

My Beloved Sun

edge Its way to the surface

RECOLLECTION OF YOUTH

The Hawk Portico 5:04pm

While waiting for My Tea to steep

I watched a girl doing cartwheels

and walk-overs

in a neighbouring yard

— I did them too —

immediately upon arrival at My Grandparents’

extensive lawn in Jordan Bay

and when My Tea was ready

the girl climbed into a big grey truck

and was gone

IN MY BATHROBE TILL AFTER THREE

The Hawk Deck 7:19am

EYE have been held in a trance

by The Birds, The Rooster

Their Song on The Air

The Silver on The Sea

and My Successful Adjustment

to the sleepless effect

of going off My anti-psychotic medication

four days ago
