Not sure if “foine” is a typo, but interestingly enough, that’s how my mom pronounced the word “fine,” almost to rhyme with coin. For what it’s worth. —Chagall
“Foine” is the local pronunciation — along with “H’aint”. Where was your mother from?
Born and raised in Alphabet City. I think it’s a variation of that same extreme NYC accent that gives us “chawklit” and “cawfee” for chocolate and coffee.
