CALL TO THE DECK
by Joanna Gilman Hyde
The Hawk Deck 11:10am
The Day On The Deck
Is So Still
I Can Hear The Echo
Of The Crow’s Call
Harsh, Yet Circular
Rising In A Crows’ Chorus
From The Scrub Spruce Nearby
Here Beside Me
Perhaps A Buzz Flies
The Hawk Deck 11:10am
The Day On The Deck
Is So Still
I Can Hear The Echo
Of The Crow’s Call
Harsh, Yet Circular
Rising In A Crows’ Chorus
From The Scrub Spruce Nearby
Here Beside Me
Perhaps A Buzz Flies
I read these every day and think, I want to live like she does. It’s beautiful here in Western NY, but I guess that you actually have to stop and smell the flowers to enjoys them. How are the winters there? I spent an August week in Nova Scotia a couple of years ago, it was a more magical vacation than Disney World.
Thank you for this comment. The winters here on The Hawk have not been bad so far. The snow blows away. As we are on the most southerly tip of Nova Scotia the temperature is moderate. What part(s) of Nova Scotia were you visiting?
We did a somewhat grand tour of the perimeter. Train from Montreal to Moncton, drove to Halifax, and then down the South West Coast, around to Digby (whale watching in the cold fog – we actually went in bathing suits and ended up in wet suits), up the east coast to and to Parrsboro to enjoy the Fundy tides, then up to Cape Breton, stopped at the AG Bell lab, and up to the northern tip of the island, and around the north east coast and enjoyed some of the Gaelic culture. I think that we spent about 8 days at NS, so we packed a lot in there. My kids were 12 and 16 at the time and they really enjoyed the trip also. Ate a lot of seafood chouder, saw some humpback whales, a couple of moose on a hike, lots of beautiful nature and scenery. Also learned quite a bit of history that I wasn’t aware of, the Halifax explosion, the expulsion of the “Cajuns.” The people were also very friendly and welcoming. I would recommend a visit to anyone that loves the ocean, history, nature/outdoors. Next time maybe need to plan a bit more time to include PEI and Newfoundland.
To My Poetry and Verse:
Thank you for your travel log — Nova Scotia is the most beautiful place I know, and I haven’t seen it all.
