a pathetic little poem
by Joanna Gilman Hyde
The Tomato-coloured Couch 2:15pm
Once, long ago, I was given
a little wooden box
from a man with whom I thought I was in love
the little black & green box was given
with directions:
Keep Your Dreams In This
Years later I gave the box
as a going away present
to a young woman
who was off to France
& once, years after that
I asked her about the little black & green box
& she said:
I think Leham keeps his marbles in it
We are not always
Comfortable (yet, at least)
With our new wisdom
I try to feel better about things that are nagging me, by writing.
Which prompted my response. Thank you for the inspiration. 🙂
Apt.
Thanks for this comment. Thank you for reading me.
Of course, I love your poems.
That makes me feel so good for the day I’m having, and always.
I like this poem! Interesting idea…
Thank you! This is kind of a surprise as I wasn’t sure of this one. And by the way, I have been enjoying reading yours.
Love this, perfect ending!
That’s good, but I’m not sure how the ending can be interpreted -“marbles” as in “He’s lost his marbles?”
