"Good Morning, World!"

Month: July, 2012

THE LAWN

It was a lawn I mowed

in a peach bikini

when I was sixteen

now covered over with blackberry brambles

thigh high

up to the open front door

no longer entered

It was My Grandparents’ summer house

yellow & white

with yellow & orange roses climbing

with nasturtiums on the entry deck

vegetable garden by the sea

where parsley grew

& where My Grandmother sent Me

to pick a few sprigs for Our Supper

on The Sun Porch

THE HAWK LAUNDRY 10:30am

I dreamt of My Daughter

age 4

in a Red Velvet Dress

running across a field

to Me

laughing

I called out to a nearby friend

“I Made Her

including untidy & rude–”

Scooped Up My Beloved Child

& Kissed Her Red Left Cheek

Today I Hand Wash

Her Teenage Underwear

I Straighten Out Her Thongs

Hang Up Her Red Bra

On The Laundry Rack

To Dry In The Sun

01:50pm

The Big Red Spot

from My Period

on the well-rumpled bottom sheet

is My Red Star

STOP

with My Big Black Astro

pawing around

the wrinkles

BLACK

STOP

WHITE

STOP

RED

THE HAWK WEST DESK WINDOW 10:10am

Power is Out

Thunder is Up

Out My West Desk Window

I See The Squat Steeple

of The New Testament Baptist Church

I have never been There

in That Solid White Building

at My Eye Level

10:13am

I had thought I might seek

Pastor Lavender

in desperation

but My Days of Desperation

are over–

I will seek Him

in My Happiness

eager to read

Darlene’s recommendation

of Jeremiah’s poetry

10:22am

If I Can Find

A Bible

(NO CLAP OF THUNDER)

JULY 22 2012 THE HAWK DECK 10:18am

“I Heard A Bird Fly,”

declared an astonished visitor

to My Mother’s Island House

when I was eleven years old.

July 23rd 2012

I Live In The Land of Spirituality–

if I lie in My Bed

on the verge of depression

I am in Error

for I am eternally, rightfully happy

on My Deck or Portico

with Hunter and Eliza and The Cats

and The Birds.

THE HAWK DECK 4:04pm

The Jays of Valley Cottage

mix with The Crows of Nova Scotia

I could hear Them

before writing

but now that My Book is out

open on My Lap

I hear the swooshing of The Hedge

& guess The Next Bird To Be–

–I have no guess–

–I’m waiting to hear–

a car pulls into a driveway

a neighbour tinkers in His Shed

so I move to The South of The House

–to The Portico–

where Those Waves are a woosh

with Gulls more audible

& now too, a Jay

FLIRTATION

July 22nd 2012 THE HAWK DECK 10:46am

I slurped the last

of a juice pack

& thought of how I didn’t eat

years ago when I weighed

111 lbs

& what did I drink?

July 23rd 2012 THE HAWK BEDROOM 9:04am

Today I Rise

to The Edge of Depression

sitting in The Bed

of My Pea Soup Hospital Room

with The Window Wide Open

to let in Bird Calls

of Wellness

THE HAWK WEST WINDOW 9:32pm

Today I Received

A Friend from Shelburne

Whose Voice of God

Directed Her

To Come See Me

She Is Back In My Life

Complete With God

Within Her — I Trust Her

She Is My New Friend

9:38

I See The Crescent Moon

tonight, setting

Outside My West Desk Window

9:40

I Have Never Watched The Crescent Set

BARRINGTON PASSAGE 2:30pm

I spied a pregnant woman

out behind Dr Blair’s office–

I was in My Car

in The Shade

an hour from My Pregnancy Test

which was negative

Dressed in Black & Red

She Shaded Her Eyes

& looked up at The Elm

where I married Dr Blair

in a ceremony

I care not to remember:

My Father

assigned to “give Me away”

called up the apartment stairs

for Me to hurry

and reluctantly doled out punch

while I sat

beside My Cake

THE HAWK BEDROOM 9:22pm

For Eliza’s First Camping Trip

with A Boy

She & He bought A Six-man Tent

A Pink Fishing Rod

They rigged & set minnow traps

out of plastic pop bottles

& just drove out Our Driveway

in The Boy’s Big Black Truck

to get last-minute groceries

Eliza’s Made Reservations for Their Grounds–

The Fire Index is High
