MORNING RISE

The Hawk Kitchen Outpost 7:55am

When I woke this morning

the sky was reddish gold

purple cloud over the sun now

but I have the trash out

& the coffee steeps

Last night I told My Hair to grow

while I sleep

& It has

WINTER WALK

The Tomato-coloured Couch 2:58pm

With the last of the lobster quiche

in Me

I muffled My Self

against the beach

to walk My Self

to The Guzzle —

when last I’d sat

upon its barnacled rock

the spread of surging flow

was at My Feet —

today that seat

marked The Guzzle Switch

unreachable

to the other side

GOOD MORNING MOON

The Hawk Hallway 8:00am

This Morning I see The Moon

two days from full

sitting in the western sky

setting into a band of pink

and farther into one of blue

She heralds My Day

with Her Emblem of Quietude

as I see Her move

ever so diagonally

below the wires

across My View

NAME SCAN

Barrington Passage, NS 3:32pm

Today I saw My Name

in Lights

arrayed above

the grandiose machine

of Computerized Axial Tomography

Joanna Gilman Blair*

when One Technician asked about

The Middle Name

I thought He said

“Is that Your Real

Name?”

* My Mother named Me after Her Mother Josephine Meadow, and Anna Gilman Hill, American Horticulturist of Grey Gardens

SKY CAST

The Hawk Kitchen Outpost 8:21am

Striated Sky You

are with Me at last

while the coffee steeps

I see Your Colours —

Your Golden Touch

between the edges —

The Silken Grey

along Your bounds

I harbour You

and feed upon You

in My Morning gaze

filled with Longing

of  dare I say

Love?

SNOW CLOUDS

The Hawk Kitchen Outpost 4:55pm

The newness of snow

adheres to Our Scrub Spruce

now illuminated by a setting sun

The Sky is full

of clouds of grace

set too by the light

going deeper, fuller, bluer

over slate-grey

ocean

engulfed by clouds

of weight

HE COMETH

The Hawk Dining Room 9:44am

When I see The Silver

Light Light Light

on The Atlantic Shore

I know that I am

Safe Safe Safe

from early morning anxiety

involving letting Cats

in & out

Five Five Five

Times

PEACH LIGHT

The Hawk Dining Room 8:00am

There’s a crack

in The Clouds

letting in The Golden Peach

Light of The Sun

above My Neighbour’s Rooftop

and as I write

The Gleam of The Orb

pushes through

to create an arc

on The Wall

to My Back

ENTRANCED

The Hawk Beach 11:03am

EYE sat in that

Silver Sun

with The Beach spread

to My Back —

I’d turned an ankle

when looking up

to a flock of birds

gutting the wires

& taking off —

EYE followed Their Cloud

undulating

among the rocks

like a school

of Silver Fish

& when They passed

overhead

I straightened up

to watch

THE PROMISE OF A BEAUTIFUL SUNRISE

The Hawk Dining Room 7:20am

The Sky is clear

but for a lateral

curling of cloud

grey & slanted toward the South

along My Ocean Horizon
