OLD NEW YEAR’S EVE

The Tomato-coloured Couch 4:33pm

I think back

to That Night of Black Magic

when I was dressed in beaded

dark grey lace

enthroned by the mink

of a dead mother-in-law

— silver heels decked

My Feet

rhinestones spiralled around My Neck

The Place was packed

when I tottered in

to drink only water

next I looked

The Place was cleared

but for My Party Of Six

My Truest Friends

out for fried fish & burgers

& cranberry puddng

until unforecasted snow

compelled Us to go

leaving no shoe

behind

THE PLAY

The Hawk Kitchen 9:30am

Yesterday I put on a play

for My Husband —

I dressed in Eliza’s Black Satin Robe

& My World Trade Center Earrings

took My Wedding Rings Off

& declared to WHB

that He houses

The Most Dangerous Woman In The World —

then the gold and silver pin holding My Robe

exploded off Me

causing Me to change

into My Silver Grey

with Earrings of Dangling Gold

from Africa

& rhinestone bracelet:

a bauble of The Earth

PEAK’S BIRTHDAY

The Tomato-coloured Couch 6:35pm

I have come a long way

since My Son

was born

& I have decided to make

My New Year’s Resolution

early:

NO MORE SIGNIFICANCE

TO SEQUENTIAL 2’s —

if I could stop drinking I can

stop anything —

and I WILL stop The World

when It’s Time

MY DAUGHTER & EYE

The Hawk Queen Bed 10:15pm

Together We watched a purple sky

as evening fell

upon Our Christmas Dinner —

 on Our way back

from Barrington

to pick up an ice pack

for Her trip south

We watched, together

the cradle of The Moon

falling into

a blackened sea

MORNING MOTHER

The Hawk Queen Bed 10:45pm

I see forever

the image of My Mother’s Morning

of Her standing

on the furnace grate

beside the windows in the kitchen

of The Valley Cottage House

She made oatmeal for Howard

& Me

& ate Her’s

with a wooden spoon

out of the stuck oatmeal pot

with forced air from the furnace

billowing up Her Nightgown

FEROCITY

The Tomato-coloured Couch 7:00pm

In December 1970 I wanted to possess

badly wanted

A Pair Of Love Birds

green & red —

sitting so close

in the local pet store

I had My nine-year-old heart set

on Them & cried to My Mother

that I had to have Them

to which She replied, “Joge, what if One Of Them

dies?”

Instead, on Christmas Morning I found

a beautiful Indian Ring Neck Parakeet

but He died That Day

at the bottom of His Golden Cage

& destroyed

My ability to see

The Singularity Of God

THE DECISION

The Hawk Living Room 1:28pm

One Weekend in Early November

My Daughter decided

to quit school

— finishing out the semester of course —

to go to Florida

to work on a boat

— the powering kind —

She wrote a to-do list

blended up an avocado smoothie

for Me to taste

& That was That
