I am growing My Thick Wavy Hair

to Its Self Organizing Length

I have already thrown out

My Black Jesus Underwear

& am taking My Black & Fuchsia

to The Salvation Army

I am wearing pale lipstick

I am taking up knitting

& MAYBE baking cookies —

The Severe Mrs Blair

has been outgrown

into The Youth of Joanna Hyde

before Her Mother Died

& She is of a quiet demeanor

Who now yells “Bless You”

when people sneeze!!!

NAME SCAN

Barrington Passage, NS 3:32pm

Today I saw My Name

in Lights

arrayed above

the grandiose machine

of Computerized Axial Tomography

Joanna Gilman Blair*

when One Technician asked about

The Middle Name

I thought He said

“Is that Your Real

Name?”

* My Mother named Me after Her Mother Josephine Meadow, and Anna Gilman Hill, American Horticulturist of Grey Gardens

THE EIGHTH ANNIVERSARY OF MY BROTHER’S DEATH

The Hawk Kitchen Outpost 8:29pm

First & Foremost I am

A Human Being —

I come from the planet Earth

where I made My Self

from the mesh of molten rock

& the salt from endless waves.

I came to My Human Form

through My Mother, primarily

though My Father

gave Her Lie-sense.

I was born into a world

of tumult

@ The Exact Right Time

to become what I am Today:

A Woman Understood

SENTIMENT

The Hawk Queen Bed 9:22am

I am heart-broken

I have lost

My Mother’s Amber Beads

I kept Them in My Closet

with other necklaces

but for yesterday’s Dinner

I could not find Them

when last I wore Their Rich Glassy Orange

could the string have broken

& I not have known?

February 19th, 2016 Found Them!  Found Them in My Closet after hanging up a spiral necklace I wore today to see My New Psychiatrist.  I saw My Mother’s Amber Beads dangling from an unworn fringy purse My Daughter gave Me, and called the discovery a miracle!

ALIDA’S JEWELLERY

The Tomato-coloured Couch 5:35pm

I lost a hand-made earring

in the sands of My Mother’s Island

I lost a hand-made sunset ring

in the waves of the Jersey Shore

Both coincided with boyfriends

of My Youth

One Whose name I don’t remember

& One I hope to see again

now in Middle Age

TWO WEEKS LATER

The Tomato-coloured Couch 4:20pm

My Mother’s Day Bunch

is a scraggly cascade of drying

lilly petals & crisp carnations

There are three well-preserved roses

the colour of autumn

with a card held high

“Hope You’ll enjoy

The Light of My Life bouquet –“

SELF-REPRESENTATION

Eliza’s Bathroom 1:38pm

I stand on a mat of Purple

in My Purple accented bath

looking down at My Purple toe nails

& Teal coloured pants

looking from above at My Station

as The 3rd Wife of a successful doctor

The Mother of 2.4 Children I love

fiercely

A Revolutionary of Vision

an artist of words

MEMORY PILL DREAM

The Hawk Queen Bed 8:50am

Eye woke w/ The Dream

of M(eye) Mother

having Her 2nd Funeral

Eye was w/ Howard

in The Jordan Bay House

& She hadn’t died yet

Eye asked Howard where

We should have The Funeral

& He said Here!

We can put The Coffin

on The Sun Porch Table

& have Everyone park

on the grass. We can send

Her Body out to sea

& Eye said, It better go

way out to sea or

It will just wash up

in The Cove!

Eye asked My Brother —

“Have You ever known

Anyone Who’s had 2

Funerals?”
