TREATISE ON THE UNIVERSE

The Tomato-coloured Couch 1:45pm

The Universe is Female

shaped like a laundry basket

with one side sloped in

to go over a hip

emptied into

The Male Design of Machine

only to be filled

again

MY HOUSE

The Hawk Kitchen 2:11pm

My House affords a clear view

even in the fog

I see the layers of scrub spruce

receding

from The Cats on the deck

& bread rising

with The Kettle on

I Just Made A Bed

The Hawk West Desk Window 12:30pm

I just made a bed

for The Procreation Of Humanity:

I spread out a dark brown bottom fitted sheet

and picked off The Galaxies

stuck there —

I overlaid the top sheet — dark purple

tucked it under the queen-size mattress

& filled the matching pillow cases

with very old pillows

The Comforter went over last —

old too because of the occupancy

of cats

NOTE TO JIMBO

The Tomato-coloured Couch 6:30pm

If My Old Down-trodden Psychiatrist

could see Me now

cooking chicken & rice

writing 7 or 8 poems a day

loving My Husband

& My Cats

shopping & going to the hairdresser

What Would He Think?

Was/Is She Mad?

How has She Come This Far

& better yet —

Where Is She Going?

BUSY BLACK JESUS

The Hawk Kitchen 2:52pm

Black Jesus was busy today

in Her Black Jesus Kitchen

She cooked peppers that were going bad

–for spaghetti sauce–

macaroni for Eliza & Tyler

when They get back from Their first night

on The Island

Shepherd’s Pie with corned beef

from The Hawk Basement

She listened to Her Black Jesus Radio

& drank Her Black Jesus Tea

–She was busy all right–

She even did two loads of laundry

 still hanging

on Her Black Jesus
