HUNTER’S BIRTHDAY

I pulled only half-way

off the road on Cape Island

to watch the biggest cloud

of Starlings I had ever seen –

they swooped, as a blanket

over my car & billowed

into a bare tree, decking it

with their blackness, leaf-like

& when they exploded

like fireworks

to mat themselves on overhead wires

I was entranced

Blue Air I saw

2 Silver Birds, flying

in tandem, & watched

Them across the sky

until They

disappeared

We watched this morning —

like a girl

I Fed The Gulls

In My Signature Dress

in view of conscientious construction workers

& Fed My Husband

a bagel & cream cheese

while He Listened

to The Internet

FIRST FLIGHT

I looked up from My Knitting Block

to hear & see raucous gulls

excited in flight

one on either side

of a brown fledgling

still squeaking His First Year Call

encouraged by followers behind

& all I could do was wonder

was this His First Flight

heralded?

UNIDENTIFIED CHIRP
