"Good Morning, World!"

THE OFFER

The Hawk West Desk Window 8:00am

There’s a Picture somewhere

of My Mother’s outboard The Molly

resting at anchor in a pool of faded pink

It must be down in the basement

here at The Hawk

what will I think

when I see It again?

THE GALACTIC TOMATO-COLOURED COUCH 5:35pm

There’s A Galaxy

on My Living Room Window Pane

It sits before an old sunset

tantalizing Me by Its Size:

on What Scale is It as Large

as The Galaxies in Space?

on the bacterial level

or the molecular level

or the neutron, proton, electron level?

Or smaller still?

Will I ever know The Difference

or is there no difference —

Is It All Relative?

THE DOOR POEM

The Hawk Portico 2:53pm

I Open Doors

I Close Doors

I Open Another Door

I Close That Door

I Am An Owner of Cats

composed by WHB

CRASH

The Hawk Portico 3:00pm

The Waves Today Remind Me

of Children Playing

uneven in Their Tumult

sporadic in Their Breaking

Yes, I have read of The Accident

but My Observations

were gathered

beforehand

The Hawk Kitchen 10:38am

A single splash of spray

out My Kitchen Window

evokes a silent prayer

that I may find relief

in The Changing of Hands

of My Mother’s Island Property —

a property I could never see

as My Own —

even if Peak or Eliza

had It — It would still be

My Mother’s

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY GATHER HERE

November 14th, 10:22pm

Lying in a pool of onlookers

My Eyes are closed

then open to see His Face:

“Live, Damn It, Live!”

He holds the back of My Neck

“I’m afraid I can’t —

I’m afraid –”

“Live For The Moment!”

A Siren erupts

spacing The Crowd

I get jostled onto a stretcher

but He stays with Me

I can hear His Lilting Voice

giving directions

among the alarmed barrage of questions:

Is She Alright ?

Did They Get The Shooter?

He stays in attendance

“DVD — Remember Me!”

The Tomato-coloured Couch 1:10pm

I felt Your Little Black Heart

wrap around Me

as I traversed the rainy Sobey’s Parking Lot

My Hair Newly Cut

You grabbed My Black Bullet-proof Vest

shouting “Live, Damn It, Live”

“DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENING EVENT”

Take five 3 year-olds

and put Them through

a series of “Developmental Screening Tests”

and what have You got?

“Today’s expert opinion

is next week’s laughable theory”

THE HAWK DECK 4:22pm

I see a great hull of a cloud

draining an isolated shower

out over The Atlantic

blue-grey into blue-grey

I have begun reading

Anne Yarbrough’s Bowl of Light

a beautiful record of Her Time

living on Mc Nutt’s Island —

Eliza says she wants to read it too

THE HAWK KITCHEN VIEW 4:35pm

I stand in sublimity

observing The November Sun

setting Its Light

against The Panorama of Spruce

out My Back Kitchen Door —

Subtle Clouds are rippled

like beach sand

& The Crows have yet

to finish My Offering

of old Shepherd’s Pie
