MY STAR

The Hawk Kitchen Outpost 11:26am

Today I picked up A Star

(Silver of course)

off My Thick Grey Bath Mat

It glinted at Me

as I sat on the toilet

and so I caught It

on My Left Index Finger

and scraped It off

with My Little Metal Star-scraper

into A Little White Box

of Indeportenz*

and named It

Joanna

*word of mine from My Childhood used to describe small collections of special things and later business envelopes and their contents My Mother would give Me to play with — usually junk mail.

MORNING SHUSH

Eliza’s Room 7:30am

The Waves are subtle

from Eliza’s Room —

even the birds seem quiet

and I didn’t hear the crowing

of a neighbouring rooster

I saw yesterday

on My Way to The Guzzle —

I saw Him with His fine teal tail

and about four red hens

the next road over

from where I could see

the back of My House

and the new window

for where I sleep

CAPE SABLE ISLAND

The Hawk Kitchen Outpost 9:28am

EYE have The Purity

of a dream —

like The Tears I Shed

on The Shoulder

of a grieving widow —

like The Silver Line

of wake behind

a fishing boat

along My Shimmering Ocean —

loved

MY 55th BIRTHDAY*

The Hawk Kitchen Outpost 7:54am

A funny thing happened

this morning when I woke

at dawn:

I thought I was in Hunter’s Bed

& thought immediately of moving

into Eliza’s

when I realized I was

already there

MY PATH

The Tomato-coloured Couch 2:00pm

Today I watched

a Universe drift through

My House — It started —

if I can use that phrase —

under a table in The Living Room

which displays The Heads of Hunter & Rudy*

and when I opened the front door

to let a cat in

(She changed Her Mind)

The Universe swept Its Self through

My Dining Room

and into The Kitchen

to roll to a stop

helices intact

string theories in place

at My Grandmother’s wrought iron chair

where I sit

to look out

*Rudy died on Tuesday, April 26th.  He never got to see the sculpture.

NOW EYE HAVE THE SAME

The Hawk Kitchen Outpost 10:05am

At Jordan Bay

My Grandmother

always watched The Ocean

dazzling —

She would tell Me

about The Diamonds

and Stars

and She would

allow Me to

relish Them and to

revel in Them

UNVACUUMED

The Hawk Living Room 7:04am

The Shaft of Sunlight

on My Living Room Floor

illuminates the elements

of space —

I see an asteroid

and the dust of the stars

cat hairs and whiskers

take the place

of eternal galactic

gatherings

PAINTING PROCESS

The Hawk Kitchen Outpost 7:05pm

I have M(EYE) BODY

figured out —

after a blood red flood

(it was blood after-all)

I have the beginning of a star

in the center

& black drips adding action

along three of four sides

The Format is vertical

eleven feet high

The Star will be configured

ONE LAST LUNCH

The Hawk Dining Room 1:14pm

Today I finished off

My Stew

like any good woman would —

It had no meat left

but I didn’t care —

I ate The Thick Broth

lovingly

and savoured The Turnips —

a vegetable about which

I have mixed feelings
