I ONCE SAT
by Joanna Gilman Hyde
I once sat on a screened-in porch
where I thought I could be
if not happy at least
somehow relieved
wrapped in a comforter
or was it just that sweater
I wore when I was so sick
too sick to live
too sick to want to live?
Now Instead I Sit
Proudly On My New Front Stoop
Heralded By The Sun
Underneath A Sun Hat
Glittering Around My Eyes
Gently Lifting
To The Breeze Off My Ocean
